The safe operation of our fleet and the protection of the environment are cornerstones of the Wah Kwong philosophy. Whilst international standards and regulations for the operation of ships have increased, we view these as the minimum standards and always strive to exceed them, as demonstrated by our ongoing crew recruitment and training programmes and our commitment to a modern fleet.

Wah Kwong has always been at the forefront of embracing new technology and standards. Our Chairman, George Chao, is Chairman of the Bureau Veritas Asia and Australian Committee and also a past Chairman of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA).

The company remains an active participant in the work of the HKSOA and its sub-committees, and is committed to ensuring that Asian shipowners continue to have an active voice in the global shipping industry’s drive to meet its obligation to
carry the world’s cargoes in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

Wah Kwong have a strong and ongoing commitment to the environment and place particular emphasis on ensuring the fleet’s use of fuel oil is compliant with MARPOL 73/78, Annex VI, for the control of sulphur content not to exceed 4.5% m/m or 1.5% m/m for sulphur dioxide controlled areas.
