Wah Kwong Ship Management Limited (WKSM) is the group’s in-house shipmanagement company who are responsible for providing technical support and crewing for the group’s fleet in addition to providing third-party shipmanagement services to the Wah Kwong Maritime Group and a number of the group’s long-term associates and joint-venture partners. WKSM are certified by Bureau Veritas under the provisions of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and are committed to providing ship management services with an emphasis on safety, quality and the implementation of an effective environmental management system.

WKSM have a highly experienced shipbuilding supervision team who undertake all of the group’s newbuilding supervision and provide third-party supervisory services for the group’s long-term associates and joint-venture partners including the Wah Kwong Maritime Group, who have an extensive newbuilding programme in China.

WKSM has fully implemented the IMO’s International Safety Management Code and is committed to meeting all international, flag-state and recognized industry standards and regulations. WKSM are fully ISM compliant and the ISO 9001-2000 requirements on quality control and ISO 14001-2004 requirements on environmental management are not just adhered to, but are part of the corporate culture.

WKSM’s staff, both at sea and onshore, are kept fully up to date with industry and regulatory developments through ongoing training and an active participation in industry forums and seminars.

WKSM embraces the development of various industry standards and regulatory initiatives such as the Tanker Management Self Assessment programme, not merely implementing them but using them as the yardstick against which to measure and improve upon their extensive existing internal management systems, where the philosophy is to exceed safety regulations and industry best practice. ■
