Ludwig Criel started his career in Antwerp in 1976 before joining Almabo NV as an Administrative Manager in 1983 where he held various management positions within the Almabo/Exmar Group. In 1991 Ludwig became Chief Financial Officer of CMB NV, one of the oldest and biggest shipowning companies in Antwerp. He has been a director of CMB and Exmar since their listings in 1991 and 2003 respectively and is presently also a member of the Executive Committee of CMB NV. Ludwig served as Managing Director of the Wah Kwong Group between 1999 and 2004 and remains a member of the board of Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings Limited. He is also a member of the board and chairman of the Royal Belgium Shipowners Association, a member of the board and chairman of DPG Media and chairman of the board of Banque Degroof Petercam. Ludwig graduated from the University of Ghent with a degree in Applied Economic Sciences in 1974 and holds a degree in Management from the Vlerick School of Management.
